In the summer of 1898, the "Continental Society for Electrical Enterprises" commenced with the construction of the suspension railway over the Wupper river. Around two and a half years later, the "Wupper Valley" was immersed in a sea of flags: Wilhelm II and his consort Auguste Viktoria themselves rode the suspension railway on 24 October 1900, on an imperial trial run from Döppersberg to Vohwinkel. How fortunate that Carriage No. 5 has been preserved for posterity. After painstaking restoration work, the Wuppertal Stadtwerke municipal utility company has put it and an identical secondary carriage into service as the "suspended lounge of Wuppertal". The nostalgic Imperial Carriage is now available for you and your festivities. Glide imperially with your guests over the Wupper river - an unforgettable experience! There are enough occasions for festivities in the Imperial Carriage: birthdays, anniversaries, engagements, stag parties or weddings...
Throughout the entire year the historic carriage is in use for relaxing trips in a cosy atmosphere or convivial journeys on which one can enjoy a pre-lunch drink or two. In the evening the Imperial Carriage is starting out for its Tour of Lights. The tours take about one hour. Hostesses in historic costumes accompany you on these round trips and provide you with fascinating insights into the history of our city.
Tickets for the Imperial Carriage tours can be easily booked online on www.kaiserwagen.de or directly at Wuppertal Touristik, Schloßbleiche 40 (city centre) under telephone number +49 (0)202 563-2180 or 2270.
